A Brief History of The Blue Liverbird
Everton were founder members of the Football League in 1888 - and took just three years to be crowned champions of England.
In 1891 they became first club to be presented with the then newly commissioned league championship trophy - Preston North End had been presented with a pennant for their first two triumphs - but while the Football League had commissioned a trophy they still hadn't embraced the idea of league championship medals.
So Everton commissioned their own.
And there, at the heart of the silver medals, was a Liver Bird.
As the symbol of the city of Liverpool, and as Everton were the leading football club of the city - the row which would form Liverpool was still brewing - it was a logical, and uncontroversial choice.
